I have an 85 T-TYPE W/ 87 drivetrain, has been a nightmare since I bought it! I had an ATR ext. wastegate stick and overboost causing blown head gasket.I had #3 inj. short on EGR causing another blown head gasket! The car has a Tial ext. wastegate,42# injectors, red"s XP pump,Te-44 turbo, PTE roller cam 210, heads & intake ported, kenne bell adj.FP. regulator, and a MAF Translator w/ an LS1 Maf.Now to the problem I'm having! Not all the time, but sometimes when I stab it to the floor, it start to take off real hard the I hear a pop out of it and it's like someone shut it off! I let off and then hit it again and it's ready to go!When this happens I go to my Direct Scan and at that point it shows all #s 0, and coolant -40!Also I have a turbo Tweak street chip in and Wot Fuel Setting that was at 140BLM's was now back to 128!It's like the computer was unplugged then plugged rigt back in!Also to get O2 Millivolts in 770 range,I have Trans. set at #2 set @wot,turbo tweak chip wot fuel @140 BLM's setting, and FP. set @ 52 Psi w/ Vac line off, running 19#'s boost! Hopefully someone out ther can help Please!
TIA,
ED Vitai

maybe if someone close to you has a spare ecm, you could try that out....or purchase a spare if you have $$...its possible that thats the problem, maybe a bad wire or short somewhere. also i'm not even close to the expert on these MAF sensors, however i do see you have aftermarket set up in that department, so maybe swap it out with a known good stocker. do you have a volt booster? i've heard of those interfering with other electroics before. finally i was given this advice a few months back: wrap the direct scan wire(i believe the flat wide wire)in foil, because ssometimes they catch interference with other electronics and send goofy readings. Also, make sure the film is completely cleaned off of your ecm where the Direct Scan plugs onto it, if not your readings will be jacked up.

This type of problem generally indicates a questionable connection between DS and the ECM. Either the ECM contact aren't clean enough, OR, the connector is going on too far (yes this is possible). I had the latter problem. What I did was get a very very small zip tie (one that would slide down into the DS/ECM connector) cut it to length and slid it down inside the DS connector. This prevented it from ever being pushed on too far.

Thanks guys ,I've already replaced the ECM, I have the special insulator for the wire to the DS,haven't tried the stock MAF, Red's volt booster, or looking for shorts!Red says that his volt boosters will not harm anything.Does anyone know where the power feeds run for ECM?The hot's and the Grounds?I'll start looking into these things!
TIA,
ED :)

How about trying to drive the car with the DS cable unplugged from the ECM? That would at least eliminate a DS connection or hardware problem.

I would say to check www.gnttype.org to find wiring diagrams and stuff like that....that site seems to have everything we need, we just have to find it. or goto the local parts store and get the regal chilton's manual, i had one wheni had my GN and it was very helpful.

sounds like high voltage problem to me or power/groung to computer shorted/loose.......check computer terminals for water damage, our cars are notorious for this....

Thanks guys,I believe I've found the problem! I tried the wire tie in the ribbon cable idea, and that made it worse than ever! When I got the car it already had scanmaster on it,but I'd realy like to run Direct scan!It seems that when I disconnect the DS., the car doesn't pop! Also I am using an old Compaq laptop! I had a similar problem with my old T-Type, so I sent the DS. to Chow to be checked out.He couldn't find anything wrong with it! It's very funny though when I hook it up, the popping starts again. I wonder If it could be a conflict Between DS., and scanmaster or laptop issue? Now I'm also having what I think is a Performance issue so i will post it in the proper forum If you guys would like to give me some input on that!
Thanks alot,
Ed V

who installed the DS and did the ecm modification? you or someone else? if someone else did it, have you checked their work? what you are describing about when you hook up the DS wire it pops and goes on, but when unhooked the car is fine is almost identical to what happened to me....take the ecm out, take nail polish remover, a small screwdriver and a scotchbrite pad and get ALL of that film off the back where the DS wire plugs onto the ecm, i thought i had all of the film off of my ecm when i did my DS install on my TTA, i was wrong, at first i felt as if i was hurting my ecm by scraping and scrubbing it so hard, but you have to give it some elbow grease to get that film off. if you need help e-mail me, or call me (330)780-5511, i'm not the turbo buick expert yet, but i'm very close to where you live and am glad to help if i can.
