Is the direct scan as fast at logging as a Power logger? Is a used direct scan a good purchese? Thanks for the feedback

Kevin

There's nothing wrong with direct scan other than it's difficult to add more than one sensor to it.

You can use the MAT input to scale another sensor unless of course you need to see MAT data.

It updates at 18fps in the fastest mode I believe.

Plenty of data.

I just bought a power logger but it won't go into my car until the late spring.

I would think it's a good purchase unless you are gonna require logging of more data such as wideband, alky. or fuel pressure sensors, EGT etc.

How fast is the power logger in comparison?I currently have a scan tool, and am considering one of these.Just trying to compare:confused:Thanks for the input

they are the same at logging .in some ways direct scan has more options.I really like direct scan.It is a serial port not a usb.it is so fast a tranny flair will show up before you will feel it.however it is outdated with the new power loggers optional inputs

They're both really fast, at 18 frames per second because they both access the same point.
Direct Scan is OK for what it does. Quite similar to Powerlogger but NOT the same. Not sure what BobbyBuick is referring to when saying Direct Scan has more options??? And I have to correct one thing he stated. DS does not use a serial port, It actually plugs into your computer's parallel printer port. So your computer needs to be fairly outdated, and running win98SE or older.

Options? You can't really beat the Powerlogger with it's analog input device that will accept and log inputs from a variety of external inputs in adddition to all the data being read directly from the ECM.

Fast? both the same

Supported? DS no PL yes

Is there a thread showing what needs to be done to a factory ECM to run the Direct Scan? My ECM is already modded for LowZ injectors. Will this affect the Direct Scan in any way?

Thank you

Direct Scan connects to the computer the same way Powerlogger does...they attach to the edge connector on the end of the computer. You have to remove the end piece off of the computer cover, remove the conformal coating off of the edge connector and attach the ribbon cable. The only real drawback with DS was the record time. I think you only have 90 seconds of record time at 18 fps. I used DS for a long time and it's a great tool but the Powerlogger gives the capability of more data inputs and unlimited recording time. The LowZ injector mod has no impact on data logging.
