Well i have been thinking alot about building a street stock dirt track ca(not using a tr, or a gn or anythign of the sort :P...jsut maybe an old cutlass or monte) but didn't know where i could find restrictions, information, tips or anything. I am hoping some of you guys have had experience with a crew or even drivign and can tell me how to begin, recomend links or reading material...anything of the sort.

thanks!

contact your local track for the rules. your best bet is to hang around the pits and get to know every one. ask one of the older guys if you can do any thing for them, even swiping the floors of his shop for free and cleaning up the place as long as you can hang around. after a few months to a year in the shop you will get the just of things.

that might give you some hints for looking for cheap performance parts, may i sudgest a aluminum radiator support and a gn or 442 8.5 inch rear:D

its been a while sence ive been in to stock cars and such but if im not mistaken most classes now run crate engines now so you will need some cash and learn how to surf the yards for the rest of your parts. you will have to check on the class rules about the engine but if you can build them i would use a 350 block with 4 bolt mains, there fairly easy to find in older trucks (yes i know its not THAT easy to find a good one but there still around) you might could try some issuzu (sp) trucks, the BIG ones that are built like moveing trucks, they use 4 bolt main chevy 350s but the older ones are better.

thanks ronnie.

what exactly is a crate engine? one that comes out of a crate?

thanks for those links! anyone else that suggests anything..please tell me :)

i have been in the bits and sprayed a sprint with diesle b4 so mud doesnt stick but it was with my uncle. am i allowed to spend the $15 anytime i want to go into the pits or will i have to have a reason to hang out down their? last time i jsut signed the paperwork and went....

well, pretty much yeah

it depends, on the track i used to race at people could only get in to the pits after the races but diffrent tracks have diffrent rules.

 how do i hang out and meet every1...when the race is over? I can't help anybody then because the race is over and nothing is needed + every1 else goes down their afterwards.

What did you run at the track ronnie?

franklen county, fastest short track in the south :p just go down, pick a car, and ask the owner if he needs any help threw out the week preping the car. tell him you will work for free aslong as you get to learn alittle and be polite. after alittle while if you work your ass off and dont piss him off he might decide to put you behind the wheel.

ive been thinking about going back to franklen but i dont want to invest in another car at the moment. althow they do have a "drag race" that people get to bring there factory cars down and run a few heats, 2 laps head to head with another driver. at the end of several heats they have a final, the 6 or so winning cars race. keep in mind these are the peoples STREET cars.

they also have what they call "any car or indy car" (i never could tell the exact name whity has a real bad accent) its pretty much a demo derby/stock car race, the cars set where they wreck theres no caution flags. i figure its a good way to waste a junker and 20 bucks of spray paint. when i win the lottery ill run a riced out eclipse :D

i drove a pinto, dont laugh there good stock cars and a modifed for a short time.

well....

It looks like nobody else knows anything about dirt track racing. I am going to get to know a few of the crews(some good ones) and some fo the moderate guys and eventually maybe start helping them out if they want that way I can elarn soem stuff. I do not know exactly how good of a job this would be for soem1 that doesn't do emchanic stuff but I suppose I could learn. I just want a interesting hobby like this that can also get you fans.. :P

ROnnie....you said you would "rebuild" the engines each week? Can you tell me what all processes you went through on these engines to kee them 100%.

thanks!

i dint rebuild them, i just drove the car. they did a ring job each week, changed the valve springs, and ground the valves and seats when ever i pushed the car to hard. im sure they did more to the engines but i wasent with that out fit for long before i got out of it. when i raced the pinto it was with a stock class, i never touched the engine in that pos
