Does anybody have pictures or information to modify the stock transmission pan to a deep style. I read a thread earlier on this modification being advised but have found no info on it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

What type of welder was used? I have one of those flux core MIG units from Lincoln. Not sure how well it welds AL though. There is a gas kit available for it IIRC. What was the total time to fabricate?

The stock pan isnt aluminum. Its galvanized stamped steel. You will have to grind or sand off the zinc coating. I would get it TIGed. The mig weld will be porous and could leak.

Yes the pan is just stamped steel, so the mig has no problems welding it. Once welded, I filled the pan in the parts washer and let it sit overnight. In the morning there were a couple of spots where it seeped through, but I just touched up the welds in this area, and voila, no leaks.

It did not take long at all to put together. The most time was spent welding.

You have inspired me to do one for myself.

Thanks for the info.... I have the tools and ability.... and welder... to make it happen.... I am going to get me a couple of pans... and make one deep one from it......

How many inches deep did your pan end up?

To be honest, I didn't actually measure it, but it is about 1/2 inch (the overlap of the two pans when welding together) less than the depth of two pans together.
