My hobbs switch gets vacuum/boost from the line that Steve described. The hobbs switch is located near the firewall above the vacuum brake canister. Ground wire is connected to the firewall. My 30amp relay for the system is installed in line with the relays for the cooling fan, on the driver side fender.
You can try the pump you have, but the Sureflo has been reliable for me for over three years and is pretty inexpensive. It's important to have a reliable pump for obvious reasons.
