Lots of questions here. Is it better to rebuild a tranny before it starts to slip? How big of a deal is rebuilding a tranny? Is it something a guy can do himself? Are there special tools required? I've done plenty of engine work, engine & tranny swaps etc, but never had a tranny apart. Except to change oil & filters... But wholely crap, transmission shops around here seem to just want to bend you over and give it too you balls'n'all  How hard can it be?

the tools to rebuild the trans cost 2k anyways so just have it done.

trans rebuild

Get CK performance book on the 2004r. Ive built several of trans in my garage and learned alot of additional info. You will have to buy or fabricate some specialized tools, nothing very expensive. Good luck!

Have to agree. The book is great. The tools aren't that much and can be had on ebay if you keep searching. Bushing drivers is the only thing I couldn't find, but hey, sockets work pretty good.

If you are going behind a high hp/torque ap be prepared to spring for some billet pieces. Or you just might be dropping it again and building it again.
