1996 1500 dodge pickup

drove to work yesterday, went to leave and when i went to start it, it sounded like it had a weak battery, fired up, and immediately died...after that it just turned over with no start, fuel pump ran with key fwd....i left it over nite, went to have it towed to a dealer today, the tow truck guy asked to look at it, had me try to start it and flooring it...it fired up but dies with no gas....i can keep it running with constant gas pedal....

also, today he had to use a battery jumper on the first try....

so i assume the battery is in need of changing, but why would that affect how it runs once started? volt gauge shows 14+ volts...so i assume the alternator is ok at this point....

the only thing i can think of at this point is clogged fuel delivery...filter maybe.....

any other ideas?

My work truck is a 2001 Dodge van with the 5.2, if the battery drains to where I need a jump, it will not idle without my foot on the gas pedal for a few minutes. I don't know if it has something to do with the computer resetting or what.

Yes, the computer has to complete a relearn cycle before it'll run properly. A friend of mine has the same problem with his '99 when she goes dead. I've never heard of it causing a no-start condition, although. If the plugs are white and it seems to be leaning out, it may be the plenum pan gasket on the underside of the manifold. Those pickups are notorious for blowing those gaskets and plugging cats.
