I had this Turbonetics Racegate installed about 13 years ago along with a Hi-FI 60-1 Turbo.I called Precision a few years back and was told that because the Racegate or wastegate is so far away from the Turbo that why my Turbo doesn't spool fast.Precision recommended the THDP to get rid of the lag.Im just wondering is this a fact about the Racegate or just a myth:confused: There's no leaks around the Racegate but first gear is a bit sluggish compared to what I hear from other guys who have a TE-44 Turbo.

Unless the gate is leaking then it shouldn't effect spool up. Location relative to the turbo doesn't really effect spool, but does effect the gates ability to vent the pressure off in time relative to shaft speed (boost).

Many have told me that the Racegate doesn't affect spool but other's like from Precision have told me that because the Racegate is so far away from the Turbo thats why it takes a bit longer to spool. Then again the THDP is very popular while not to many have the Racegate set up like me.

The wastegate controls boost by venting exhaust gas around or away from the turbine. If the gate isn't open then it's just like you have a pipe there. Changing to an internal setup won't get anymore gas to your turbine over your racegate unless something is wrong with your racegate.

My car has pretty much run the same over the years.Being about 13 years old though I should probably look for leaks around the Racegate. One strange thing about is that when I switched Turbo's and put the TE-44 on it seems to be stuck on 18lbs of boost and the inside the car boost controller knob never worked anymore.Maybe this is part of the problem. The THDP is a bit easier to adjust boost without putting the car on a lift.I heard that the Racegate's are primarily used for big Turbo's.I only had a 60-1 Turbo on there before the 44.

I'd also confirm what spring is in the wastegate and a 13 year old gate might have some issues with sealing as is so I'd also find out what gates fit that flange and if things look ugly, get a Tial.

I went from an internal to an external mounted on the crossover pipe and if anything, spool was better.

Its harder to diagnose unless the car is on a lift but there is a possibility that something is wrong in the Racegate.
