my question is when you primer a car are you suppose to wet-sand the primer too? i did and the primer feel smoother i took care of some small rust spots which came out great, also what grain of sandpaper are you suppose to use 1000 grit? to remove rust spots?

thanks, carlos e

Autobody 101

I do collision repair for a living, WE ALWAYS FINISH OUR PRIMER WITH A WET SAND. Usually the routine is to guide coat the primered area, sand with 180 dry, re-guide coat then sand with 220 dry, re-guide coat then sand with 500 wet. the first two sands flaten the work area and the wet sand takes out the sand scratches. Any other ? feel free to hit me up.

you are a life saver jp87gn, thanks a lot me and my bud did'nt have a clue but we tried and did a good job on the rust spots but the we had know idea it had to be wet sanded that many times:eek: and your absolutely right about the scartches i could not figure how to get rid of them, and they are small, dude i can't thank you enough :) , we were useing 213? to wet sand the car, boy were we wrong  again thanks for the help and believe me i will be hitting you up, i can't think of a more qualified guy;)

thanks, a mill

autobodystore.com also has a great message board. I'm not a professional, but with the help of some of these message boards, a novice like myself can get fantastic results. Ya just gotta know what you are doing or you can make problems for yourself. No such thing as a stupid question.

thanks guys, i will be checking into those sites, a little update, i have sanded down the entire car (jp87gn ) the info you gave was great, i went out and purchased a 32 gallon air-compressor ( home depot, has a great deal 32gal air comp-oil-less with a complete kit, air hose, grinder, 2 paint guns both pretty good, it brings a lot guys and all for only $299) back to the car i'm now working on the small rust spots on the doors,

Question how do i sand down the bumoer fillers? an i suppose to? i did use the mesh ( small piece) to fill a hole, i actually made the hole a little bigger cause i wanted to make sure there was no rust, any suggestion's on dealing with really small rust spots? there about the size of the head on a pen, it has a few of these not all together.

thanks again guys, ;)

carlos
