A wise old gearhead once told me that heat equals horse power. Im wondering to what extent that is true. Because wouldn't that mean that aluminum heads create less power since they dissipate heat faster?

i THINK the higher the heat maybe the more COMPLETE combustion [good for emissions and theoretical horesepower BUT you also greatly increase the chances for detonation at higher compression ratios and higher boost which anyway you look at is very bad.... people use Aluminum heads b/c they resist hot spots more and help prevent detonation. I think a good set of ported Irons would do just as good as a set of aluminums UNTIL you reach extreme levels of compression and/or boost. just my thoughts.
