Ok, first off I have an 87 gn. .030, girdle, caps, precision FM, te-45a, has a roller cam, but honestly i cant remember which, double pumper, cant remember the injectors. Ran a best of 10.86@126(i do remember that;))

Now the bad part.. that 10.86 was the last time i drove the car. i parked it in the garage and it has sat there for at least 5 years. Nothing was wrong with it when i parked it. Got married, had baby.... home work and work work, took me away from it.

Now the terrible part.. i havent so much as turned it over one time since it has sat. Same gas, same oil. I want to try and start it, but im not sure how i should go about doing it.

Is there a universal checklist i should go by before trying to start it after all this time? Or.... I appreciate any help u guys could give me.
 
Congats on a fast turbo buick.

I would probably drop the tank and clean it out......put some fresh gas in it.....check the fluids.....hot battery....maybe change the oil.....
and maybe try and strart it.

If you are lucky....it might start. If not.....you'll have to fo deeper..... like get the injectors cleaned.......clean and flush out fuel rail and lines......and try that.

I would look at pulling the cam sensor and running an old pump primer rod down there and prime that oil pump. That thing has sat long enough that standard oil would bleed out of the bearings. It's nothing but time and cheap insurance that your bearings have an adequate supply of new oil to cushion them during initial start. You'll have to treat the motor like an initial start-up, basically.

+1.... siphon/re-fill the gas, prime it up via the cam sensor hole, and crank it up!!! It'll start! :biggrin: Let it warm up, run it around easy for 20-30 minutes, then change the oil and fuel filter.... back in biz... :cool:
 
check for mice and eaten wires:eek:
throw some engine restorer in the plug holes or something else and prime her good.
 
On my old car
I pulled the plugs
Disconnected the fuel pump
Put some mystery oil in each cylinder via plug hole
Then I would crank the engine via the starter until the oil pressure came up.
Then I would put it all back together and try to start it.

And yeahh put some new gas in it first.

In addition to flushing fuel lines fresh gas,oil, primeing,.....This is very important.. I would also pull each spark plug and add a squirt or so of wd-40 or some type of lubbricant in each cyl and would also turn motor over by hand(with breaker bar on crank pulley) while the plugs are out should be easy since there will be no compression with the plugs out,do this before even trying to crank over by key. The oil primeing will be great for bearinsg but you also have to worry about rings and cyl walls being dry.. because when you prime it the oil will not get the cyl walls coated with oil this is where the wd-40 helps. While plugs are out for good insurance put new plugs back in at correct gap.
 
sorry saw someone already added putting oil in spark plug hole..but wd-40 works good as well less messy..but do not crank with key turn by hand first!
