I posted this in the tranny section also but since I am going to the track today I was hoping I could get a little advice

I am going to the track today and hooked up a TCC lockup switch tonight. Well I thought I did, when I switched it on there was no change at all. 2nd gear felt like same old second gear. I grounded the switch under the dash and ran the other wire to the top left ALDL port.

This leads me to believe my TCC may never have worked since I bought the car. I have had this suspicion for a couple weeks. When I am on the hwy at 75mph, I run about 2500rpms, which I figured was about right with 3.42's and 275/50 tires. Is that what you guys are running?

Think the solenoid is bad?

Just for grins, screw the brake switch that operates the TCC in toward the brake pedal a turn or two. It may not sense you are off the brake, which would never allow it to L/U. Then test for L/U by cruising and tap the brake pedal, foot still on the gas. RPM's should rise 200-400 momentarily until you release the pedal, then they should drop back down. Otherwise, you'll need to follow the procedure on gnttype to diagnose further.

If you have time, pull the brake switch and test it with an ohmmeter to see if its working properly (plunger in has continuity, plunger out has none).

No it won't. Normal operation requires your foot off the brake and the ECM grounding the solenoids other line.

Two ways to disable the TCC solenoid. Power is interrupted at the brake switch which could be a problem.

Ground is supplied by your new switch or the ECM when necessary.

I would test for the power and ground at the connector to the tranny. 2 of the 4 pins are for the TCC.

I cant find anything on gnttype.org about the brake switch. So there is a single adj screw directly behind the brake pedal?

first of all check your ecm/sol fuse in the fuse box (rare i know but mine was blown) that fuse controls the tcc and cruise i believe...if it isn't blown then i would replace your brake switch...if it's not THAT then replace the tcc solenoid under the trans (in which i have to believe you have to drop the pan in order to get it out)

my TCC doesn't lock up right now either and i have the switch done...i need to check my brake switch

Checked the fuse and it is good. I looked at the switch and the pedal appear to be puching it in all the way. What else should I look for?

Make sure the brake switch isn't being partially depressed. Sometimes the brake switch can get out of adjustment and it will be partially depressed all of the time, which would not allow the TCC to work. Also as Salvage said, check the connection going into the tranny.

ok i checked my brake switch and it looks like when i let off the brake...the pedal will just barely push in the button...of course when i press the brake pedal the button is outward all the way...but it looks like it is only being partially depressed...this would cause the tcc and cruise not to work anymore correct??? because that's exactly what happened before...both my cruise and tcc went out at the same time...

btw how exactly do you fix this? i can't see where you would move the switch closer to the pedal...i will go check again and come back...

Yes, the brake switch turns off your TCC, then your Cruise and then turns on your brake lights, in that order I believe. It's been a few years, but I know there is an adjustment down there somewhere. I don't remember how I did it, but my brake switch got misadjusted when I replaced my PowerMaster unit.

Keep pokin' around down there...you'll figure it out!

well no luck whatsoever...

i readjusted the brake switch so that the button is pressed in all the way when i am not using the brake pedal...

i took her for a spin and hooked up turbolink...trans will shift to 2nd....3rd...4th....and nothing else happens after that...no lockup still even at 65 mph...

i have my chip programmed to lockup at 55 mph and with my aftermarket 145 speedo...the speedo shows that i am going at 55 mph but t-link shows i am only going 30 mph??? wtf? is that maybe why it won't lockup? but then i have a toggle switch wired to the top left terminal on the aldl connector and it doesn't even lock up when i flip the switch?!?!?!?!?!

so now i am mad...what is the problem??? is it the actual solenoid that is bad??? i can't test my cruise control because i took it out of the car a long time ago...or maybe the brake switch itself needs replaced??? i dunno...is it bad for the car to be driving around like this also?

Are you running an aftermarket tachometer so you can see the RPM change? I find it hard to detect by ear or SOTP the subtle change in RPM when the lockup is engaged.
Just a thought...I'm not sure if mine is working with my "new" trans.

Pop the connector off the tranny and measure the voltage between the purple wire and ground with a voltmeter or test lamp. Should be +12 with the key on RUN position.

Measure the tan/blk stripe wire with the ohmeter portion of the meter to ground with your new lockup switch ON or grounded.

You should get a ground on the wire at that point.

If all that works and you don't lock up it sounds like inside the tranny. :(

Well it turned out to be my brake switch:D

Thanks to everyone who helped on this.

One question is how easy should it be to move the switch back and forth? I think mine is too loose, if anyone has some tips on holding it in place I would appreciate it

converter lock up brake switch

Hello,
Does anyone know if the blue connector (going to the brake pedal switch) with a gray and black wire coming out of it is the connector is for the converter lockup?
Thanks,
Dan
