Downfall of girdle or main caps

Besides the price and cost of machining, are there any downside to using steel center caps? How about the same for all four steel caps? And the same for a girdle?

I do not see any downfall with the steel main caps. However, girdles can also be good ''insurance'', but the only downside to them is that they have a tendency to leak... not ALL of them, but they do leak quite often...
