Can i pull off a coolant line and let the pump push out four-six quarts of trans fluid while in park, of course, and engine running? This will be a brief period, just long enough to pump out some fluid. I don't feel like pulling the pan.

Thanks.

Not sure the filter can be changed that way ;)

If your purpose is to exchange the old fluid for new clean uncontaminated fluid, you're defeating the purpose I would think. You'll be leaving a lot of old fluid in there to contaminate the new. Looking at the inside of the bottom of the pan can tell a story too. Just one man's opinion.

If you run the pump dry, you'll be pulling the pan ..... and your wallet.

Perhaps there's another reason that you want to lower the level of the tranny fluid that I'm not thinking of.

Ive always done that, but I found it to be easier to install a drain plug and change with every other oil change napa sells the drains

Worked just fine. I wanted some new Type F in there. I have no idea what my local shop put in. My tranny works fine, it's built for serious power and has about 9000 miles of street driving and around 10 runs. (Billet and hardened parts, 10 vane, clutches, band, trans-brake, shift kit,non-lock, etc.)

Well, my shifts are without a doubt, firmer. :)

I have heard about the benefits of switching to the real type F (1982 and earlier Ford) years ago, then again from Art Carr, then again in the most recent issue of GSXtra. Getting hard to find real type F. I only found a handfull of bottles in my city. You don't want a dex/type f hybrid fluid, but the bottle that says NOT to use in GM/Dex trannys. That's the real Type F.

I'm no expert but it sounds like that trans is all wrong for ya...since I like you, I'll trade my gear box for yours  Just don't drive it like you stole it and it will be ok  j/k :D
