my drive shaft is hard to remove dont have hardly any room to get off the yoke seems to be as far in trans as it will go. i am runnig metco lower control arms and adjustable uppers do they move rear axle up further, seems like i should be able to slide driveshaft forward in trans to remove. wondering if i need to have it shortened its a factory shaft, has anyone ran in to this.

You may have twisted the splines on the front yoke which is preventing it from sliding forward far enough.

yup sounds like a twisted yoke. The yoke gets twisted on a hard launch and the twisted part will no longer slide in on the splines. Time to upgrade.

I went with and inland empire 3.5" aluminum shaft with 1350 series yokes at both ends. With 1.44 short times I hope you got some good peices in the rearend too,

driveshaft

i understand that but when you look at the driveshaft you cannot see any of the shiny smoothe part on the joke. dont the tailshaft twist before the joke? i have a new trans installed and has not been to the track yet its a 200 thrans by the way.

driveshaft

were is good place to get a good driveshaft.i get 1.46 60fts and i have good axles , but stock posi.

Moser Engineering sells Inland Empire driveshafts. Or you could just go direct to Inland Empire. They have nice stuff.

If you've been turning those 60fts on a stock yoke it just has to be twisted. I twisted mine after a few 1.5's and so has one of my friends. A stock undamaged driveshaft is very easy to remove. Once it twists it's a PIA to get the driveshaft out at the rear because it won't clear the rear yoke easily.

My old rear has been removed, but I cannot take out my driveshaft from the tranny...Am I supposed to easily be able to just grab the driveshaft and pull it out (i.e. slide it out) of the tranny? Im thinking I may have twisted the splines??

Yes...driveshaft should slide out of the tranny easily...splines are probably twisted...I had to beat mine out with a BFH..

Nope, relocating the rear control arm mounting points shortened the axle's arc radius, have run into that scenario many a time, usually when owners bring me a trans with a dislocated drum to rear support washer or rear support snap ring lugs tore out(from driveshaft bottoming out in trans), shortning/replacing driveshaft is best course of action.

WOW..Inland Empire? I just moved to the IE....Do you have a website you can send me a link to? I live in Palm Springs, Ca.

Ok, I used a crowbar and was able to make it slide out pretty easily...I couldnt yank it out by hand because I guess it was frozen from the car sitting so long..The splines on the tranny tailshaft look great along with the splines on the driveshaft..Also, I have all stock control arms (but will be replacing with stock-length H&Rs (uppers and lowers)...

I did notice a yellow marking someone wrote on the driveshaft and it read JFB 18...Im thinking this may not be my original driveshaft now??

Also, the tranny tailshaft sticks out about 1 in. out of the end of the tranny...Is this normal? If I were to remove the tranny pan, will I be able to check the rest of the tailshaft and/or see if anything else is wrong?

Also, when I reinstall the driveshaft, I should be able to make it slide in all the way right?

Also, does anyone know how I can tell if this is my original GN driveshaft? Anyone got dimensions??

You're not letting the rear hang down when the car is up on jack stands, are you? If you do, the rear drops down and arcs towards the trans, taking up all the "slack", making removal/installation difficult if not impossible. Just a thought. By the way, this post is for richardV6.
