I had my trans rebuilt and now I can't get the driveshaft to go back in. There is a wide groove on the driveshaft yoke but not on the the tailshaft.Any suggestions ?

Look for twisted splines on the yoke. The wide groove helps move trapped oil so the plug doesn't pop out the back of the yoke.
AG.

Transmission shop put in a different tail shaft than your original??

twisted splines on your driveshaft yoke
looks like this when its really bad

He may have collapsed the leading edge of the tail shaft bushing when he pressed the new one in. It happens when you press the bushing a little crooked when installing.

So they make different slip yokes for the 2004R?

If you have a spare yoke laying around you could try tapping it in with a mallet to expand the bushing. I have done it with good results.

Does your tailshaft on the trans have wide groove on it to help line up the slip yoke?

there is no need to index the yoke to the output shaft
there is a spline missing on the yoke (looks like a groove) to prevent the tailshaft from hydrolocking onto the output shaft as the shaft moves in and out with suspension travel
the output shaft has all the splines inplace

Thanks.

If it has a billet output shaft it may not work, as some are cnc milled and not broached like factory. Heard horror stories about fitment issues.....

Got it to work.Mikestertwo was right about the tailshaft busing being collapsed.I got a extra yoke and beat it in.The driveshaft goes in now but it's leaking trans fluid .Its getting towed tommorow to the trans builder it's his problem now.

Yep builder should have sized the bushing when he installed it,his bad.
Yep... He told me to tap in the yoke, but instead I knocked the bushing inside the trans. He was able to fix it and now everthing is good so far.

Yea the problem is a lot of these bushings now days are Chinese junk and even if you get them in there straight they aren't sized peferctly and sometimes we even have to use emery cloth to take a little material off them to get them right, but sometimes the builder will use the cheaper stuff to put more money in his pocket too. If you run too this problem ever again you can take a slip yoke slide it into trans until it stops tap in it side to side and top to bottom and just keep working it until it slides in, unless of course its a Chinese special then the trans is coming back apart.Good luck.
