What drop pipe and up pipe make the biggest difference on a 85 Gn? And where can I get them?

Downpipe

Hi Tony here I got my 3" Downpipe from zero to sixty (0-60) cost about $225 ask for Trey. Not sure he even handles them any more but can probably tell you who to contact. It makes a (BIG) difference.

I got one from GNT a few years back. Stainless , 2 1/2 inch, nice fit. I believe it ran under $200. Dont know now.

Get yours from ATR... www.atrperformance.com

$130 for the downpipe
$90 for the up-pipe

I just did this to my car, and I can tell that the turbo spools much faster. Go to this website, and get the phone #, call it, and order the catalog ($6 bucks...it's worth it!)

Also, you might want to purchace some header wrap from jegs or summit, and wrap the whole up-pipe, and about a foot down on the downpipe...this will seriously reduce your headliner from burning anymore than is has already. I git mine from jegs, and it was about $40 bucks.

Hope this helps...;)

How have your pipes held up with the wrap? I know the wrap is a bit of a "no-no" on some headers. I haven't heard anyone ever talk about it over a stainless steel piece before, though.

TDS-84...I have only had the wrap on my pipes for about a month now, and so far, I think they work great. While the car is idling I can just put my hand on the up-pipe, w/o any trouble...Now, if I do it after I go into town or go out driving, this is a NO-NO:eek:

I think that it works pretty good, and I'll do anything to keep the heat from that headliner...to expensive to replace ($).

Just my $.02

I agree with you on the liner, don't need to be burning that thing up. The reason I ask is because header wrap on reg. steel headers will keep too much heat inside, and makes the metal brittle eventually, from what I've heard.

Don't know if it's as much of a concern on stainless or not. Did you leave the wrap raw, or spray it with silicone or anything? I don't think that stuff likes to get wet at all.

Well, I'm no expert. I hope it works for you. I'm still undecided if it is what I want to do on my other car or not.

The downpipe sounds like a bargin, but why change the up-pipe? Has anybody ever changed the up-pipe only and noticed a difference? Or better yet, have track times before and after?

A bigger up-pipe maybe less restrictive, but it also drops the exhaust velocity which may increase lag.

I would think that pre-turbo bakpressure is all created by spinning the turbine and that backpressure from the up-pipe is small.
