Hey guys I have a question about a Thinkpad...It's my Mom's and she doesn't use it, so I was going to get it off of her to run DS.

I've never seen it myself, but I asked what it said on it and it's a 560x type 2640, and I think it has Win 98 on it.

Any idea if this will work with DS?? I have no other need for it other then that.

If it has a parallel port and is running W98, there's no reason it shouldn't run.

I'll have to find out about the parallel port, but I know it's either running Win 98 or Win 95...Why does the operating system matter.

Doesn't really. Win98/95, DOS, WIN3.11, etc. will all run DS just fine.

Ok my next question would be is there a particular reason you didn't name XP???

Thanks for all the help thus far.

Windows 2000 and Windows XP are not DOS based (the other versions that Dave listed are).

Win2K and WinXP won't allow direct access to the ports, so it won't work.

Thanks for the info...I'll have to remember that one.

Ken, just so you know, I've been using Direct Scan on a Dell laptop running Win2000 Professional for several years. Nothing special needed to make it work, except the setting for the parallel port (uses bi-directional).

I have had no luck at all with WinXP. Both DS and my prom burner software refuse to run on XP. I even went as far as getting Microsoft's XP compatibility program, but finally gave up after several hours.

I've not had the occasion to try TLink on the Win2K laptop, but would be surprised if it doesn't work.

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd bring it back cuz I got my thinkpad from Mom (oh and it has Win95 on it not 98).

Now just so you know I'm laptop illiterate so if anyone has any advice to help me get DS running on this thing I'd appretiate it...Oh and I don't have any drives for it so I have no idea how I'm going to load the program, can I hook it to my desktop in a network or something (yeah I know I'm an idiot).

I use that same exact machine - I've tried 2 actually - a 560e and a 560. Both work fine with DS. If it's not networked already you'll need a CD-ROM or a floppy drive to get it networked anyway. I have a floppy drive I can lend you (shouldn't cost much to ship back and forth). I may even have a spare - I'll have to look around. I had 2 at one point in time.

Shoot me an e-mail if you're interested - e-mail notification doesn't work for me here.

I'm computer literate and I couldn't get my DS to work on my XP ThinkPad. I ended up creating a dual boot partition. 98 and XP.
