i see these advertised all the time as "5 piece spoiler" and everytime I look at mine or anyone else I only see 3 pieces? am i blind, nuts, or a combination of the both?

A five piece spoiler comes with the fender corner caps. The end pieces of the spoiler are normally left bolted to these, so it only looks like 3 pieces.

A three piece spoiler would require you to drill your corner caps.

AH mystery solved.. I just recently picked up a 3 piece one.

So is the 3 section one a factory? & the 5 an aftermarket?

No.

The 5 Piece spoiler includes factory fender end caps that have been drilled to accept a spoiler.

A 6 Piece spoiler would include the above + a decklid that has been drilled to accept a spoiler.

Some aftermarket spoilers don't have studs and therefore don't require the fender end caps be drilled. So three pieces are all you need.

So what is the factory fender end cap? It kinda sounds like the two outter edge pieces of what appears to be just three pieces.
Thanks,

The 1/4 panel end caps are at the END of the 1/4 panel (seperate pieces right above the tail lights). ALL G-bodys have these regardless of the spoiler. The end caps that were on a car with spoiler were filled inside so the nuts that hold on the spoiler ends had a level place to seat.

SO

3 piece spoiler = spoiler pieces only. L&R spoiler end pieces and the center (trunk) section.

5 piece spoiler = all of the 3 piece spoiler parts + the L&R 1/4 end caps properly filled (hopefully) for spoiler mounting.

If you were to use the spoiler on a NON OEM spoiler car, you can use YOUR existing end caps but they would need to be filled on the inside.
