Went to the track today ... in spite of damn rabbits all over the place.
Beautiful day again .... was frosty last night, then sunny and warming up when I left home about 9 AM.
Very few people showed up to race, again something to do with bunnies and not the Playboy kind. And the track people put some VHT down....that's two weeks in a row. I think perhaps the owner has gotten the idea as to why racer attendance has dropped off over the years with his refusal to not only NOT put his own down, but not allowing racers to put their own down.
First pass continued from last week with a 10.609 @ 128.91. I had forgotten to lock the converter so I attribute the slightly lower mph to that. I did get a 1.579 60'. VHT does wonders, plus leaving with 10 lbs. At the top end I increased the boost from 21 to 23 psig. I worked on the fuel map after this pass but left the timing at 24 degrees.
For the second pass I left with the same 10 lbs, but flooring it before I released the brake. This produced a 1.535 60' and a 10.351 @ 131.14. I did remember to lock it up. This pass put a big smile on my face once I was able to pry my lips out of my ears from the great wheel packing launch.
I left the boost the same for pass three. It was warming up and these days I'm trying to be a little less stupid (blown head gaskets are getting old) with my cranking on the boost regulator.
My 60' was a 1.560 and finished with the best pass so far on this stock blocked engine. A 10.347 @ 131.22. Same 23 lbs of boost.
I do need this converter to have the stall raised from it's present 3100 at zero boost though. I can't really race on our pro tree since it takes over 3 seconds to hit 10 psi on the line. My reaction times reflect this since on both my 2nd and 3rd qualifying passes I was beaten by 13 second cars.....lol.
I'm very happy with this and next week I "may" put a couple more lbs into the runs. Gotta think about it though as I really don't wanna change any more head gaskets.
BTW, hasn't anyone else got any track stories....personally I like reading about them.
