I have one ready to install too but after finding out they want you to glue it on, I'm not so sure I'm going to use it.

hood insulator

I purchased this hood insulator earlier this year along with the decals and couldn't be happier. I however modified the install a bit. I purchased a panel from a local upholstery shop that is used for headliner work and glued the pad to that panel then attached the panel to the underside of the hood with the factory plastic pins. Had the car at the BPG event and no one seemed to notice that it wasn't the factory pad. I am extremely pleased with the product. Not so pleased that I paid the higher price.

Good idea with the headliner panel have any pictures ?
Looked like a quality piece but I've been straying away from it because
I'm not putting liquid nails on the hood like to see what it
Looks like with the panel behind it

I will gladly post some pictures of the panel material I used and the final install but that will have to wait until I get home for the weekend.

From the pics on ebay it looks like it's held in place with the factory plastic tabs. Do you have to glue it?

i think you use spray adhesive... kinda like 3M super 77 - but not sure exactly, i have to dig up instructions, maybe TB3 or JPratt will see this and chime in.. i really wouldnt mind adhering it to the frame... as long as it is durable... it even will give me additional clearance for my up-pipe - which is good - no more dreaded "rub" , while giving a kinda "high-tech" look;)

The one photo has it being held on with the factory plastic pins. I'll let you know how it goes after install. Might get headliner board like other post.

I've been kicking this idea around.

Trying to decide what I would use for a backer board. Something NOT heat sensitive and also light and rigid like: aluminum or fiberglass. Headliner maybe? Pics would be great.

High temp adhesive like this?

my hood insulation pics

As promised here are two pictures of my install. One is the completed result using the factory plastic "pins" to hold up the insulation after gluing the insulation onto the panel board which is the second picture. I used 3M spray adhesive #80 according to the included instructions which were VERY specific about which adhesive to use. The insulation material is top notch and a definite improvement over the factory material in my opinion. Hope this helps someone.

Not if you dont use a turbo heat shield

Does not do well with high heat. Material discolored, melted the plastic retaining clip, material cracked right above the turbo. Not using a heat shield. Yes I used the 3M #80 spray adhesive. The liner sat on the hood for at least a month before I installed, due to the car being down for head gaskets. Can post pics if interested.

Looks great Dean - flat like some of the early vendors embroidered hood liners. Any idea what the board is made of? Foamcore or ABS like Gbody/nos4gn?

Intereseted inthe pics if would.

I don't know how to describe the panel board except that it is essentially 1/8 inch thick fiberboard and it is fairly rigid. I was charged $15 for the one piece pictured. I would assume any local auto interior upholstery shop would carry it. That's all I know. If you find one, please don't post that it only cost you $4!

That sounds like it should handle the heat

I know a guy that runs a local auto upolstery shop - I should have asked him in the first place. If he has it or has to order it he will for sure charge me extra - its your friends that kill you! There won't be any one up on ya posts from me.

When you receive the product.....is it a molded piece? The Ebay pics looks like it takes the shape of the under side of the hood. Do you have to glue and stretch it to form the shape of the hood?

Yep. Directions say to remove the hood and flip it over to install.

That's my car in the e-bay ad. I've had it now for years. I love it. NO sagging, NO discoloration, etc. Great replacement for fatory hoodliner.

I read the instructions, and as stated previously they are very specific. It says you have to use the spray adhesive as well as the factory plastic pins. Thre was another post on here about someone that didn't glue it and it fell down onto the motor and went un descovered for sometime, and got burned by the heat. When he contacted the vendor he was sent a brand new liner @ no charge. Even though he didn't install it correctly. Bill
