I have a 2002 Buick Regal GS with 51k miles and it is all stock. Today, the car started running rough and the SES light came on. I stopped by the local auto parts store since they have a code puller. They pulled just one code, which was P0102 MAF or VAF circuit low input.

I went to remove the MAF, but the screws holding it in are a T-20 Torx drive with a post in the center, so you can't get a standard T-20 torx bit on it. How in the heck am I supposed to remove the sensor? Is there a special tool to remove the screws? GM sure doesn't make this easy for a shadetree mechanic.

Thanks for any insight. :)

Nevermind. The Torx bit I needed is called a Tamper Proof Torx. It was $1 at NAPA. It has a hole in the center so the post in the scew fits in it. Nothing infuriates me more than trying to take a part off 15 minutes before the parts store closes only to find that I don't have the proper tool to take it off. :)

It sure was weird looking at that MAF since I am so used to TR and LT1 mafs. This one just dropped right into the throttle body and fits in the palm of my hand.

Tell me about it. I paid $139 for a reman with a two year warranty. A new one was $240, I think.
