any one ever have the ecm overheat and show a code 51  had it happen on way home. scanmaster showed a 51 was blowing all kinds of black smoke and ran so rough it would stall. Had wife pick me up go home pick up another scan tool and other eproms. Go back to car starts up right away with no codes in memory. drove 20 miles no problem.

Did you pull the orange wire when you swapped the eprom? That would've cleared the codes.

did orange wire when on side of road cause it stalling to reset computer...did not know what code 51 was until i got home(note to self keep cheat sheet in car) also unplugged maf and it ran the same so before i went home plugged everything back in to check the code and it was a 51. when i came back did not do anything except turn the key. started right up. no code in scan master. hooked up auto xray scan tool and still no codes.. it just seems like it overheated.

Could be the chip. Anyway, at least pull out the chip and re-seat it. The ECM always feels hot when you are driving.
