Hey guys have a question for ya'll. I just installed a EGT gauge on my 87 turbo t. I am wondering just what type of readings should I have. Normal driving 60 mph the temp is 875. Is this close to the proper temp? On a standing 1/4 mile run the egt is 1400 when I cross the finish line. Is this close to the correct temp for a 1/4 run. The car has 42.5 lbs injectors and a pte 93 octane chip, test pipe and hooker dual exhaust. The rest of the engine is stock. Any input on the proper temps would be a great help .. I really need a baseline as to what is a safe egt.

Thanks

David

87 Turbo T (42.5lbs injectors, hooker exhaust, soon to be adding Champion cnc series head, ESP front mount, vig 3000 stall 6 disk lock up convertor , and a John Craig TA-61 turbo. )

egt means nothing useful at less than wot under load ie 3rd gear at the end of the 1/4 mile

if 1400 nets you no knock, try turning the boost up or fuel pressure down.......if egt goes up, and knock doesn't...keep going

most cars like around 15-1600 at full bogey...you won't get that without race gas and a bunch of hp

straycat990 You have some very nice additions going on. You want to go fast, don't you? :)

Glad to see you are getting the egt guage. That's very smart.

As stated above, look for temps at the end of the 1320 to be about 1550, or so. You will carefully lean things out and find your specific 'knock temperature'. Every combination is different so the numbers are relative to the car, and sensor location.

Approach knock in 3rd gear carefully, and slowly. 3rd gear knock is what kills headgaskets.

Good luck!

Yep Tim .. I am lookin to go fast :D . Still haven't figured out what to do for a computer system ... accell or go with the 16 position thumb wheel chip .. also still have to get a smc alky kit. I really want to make an awesome street sleeper out of this car. :p
