Elbow-Downpipe Gasket

Im putting on a new downpipe, is there a gasket bewtween the elbow and the downpipe? i heard there wasnt one stock, but people use a gasket from a cadillac or some other type of vehilce for this?? Is there any truth to this? and if so, where do i get this gasket becuase ive heard without one the poston 3" pipe wil leak after a while
