What Electronic Boost Controllers is everyone running out there. I was thinking of breaking bad and getting the Innovative Turbo MSBC-1 .

As much as it sucks, the "Japs" make some killer units. GREDDY and HKS make some units that kick the Llamas Ass. I prefer the Greddy Prefec-B. I sell it for $336.00. It is the perfect entry lever boost controller. It provides feedback boost controll via a MAP sensor so that your boost setting is the exact boost that you get.

Let me know if you are interested in any of the "Japanese" boost controllers, I get them all.

:D

hi,
i have the greedy unit and i absolutely love it.i use it with a lt72 turbo and a race gate.my boost control is unbelievably accurate.i use to use a bleeder valve.i will never use it again.it is very easy to use and it is very compact.i just wish my readout screen color matched the rest of my gauges;) .

nick,

As fast as you are going them eyes need to be on the road not on the gauges. :D :D :D

nick,

Which model are you using?

I installed the Greddy Prefec-B.Spec II and love it. It has a lot of features and is user friendly, easy to install and smaller than a pack of cigarettes. Plus it lets you set the boost limit and records your peak boost. It has direct feed back that it uses to control the boost unlike the factory system.

i have the greedy profecB spec II also.i bought it off of an ebay auction a company from florida had on them.i paid $300 shipped.im sure they are still selling them if you look.it was here in 3 days.excellent service.

hey travis,

thats why i need a co-pilot!;) :D

nick,

Are you all using the stock type waste gate or are you using external gates?
Thanks
CJ

i was about to get a BSTC controller that Ramchargers sells... is there a huge difference between this and the "jap" ones? Anyone having success with the bstc?

The BSTC works fine with the stock solenoid, or two, and stock type wastegate setup.

The other ones don't always work well with the stock solenoid(s).

I am sure they work great with aftermarket wastegates.

All of the "jap" ones come with their own solenoids which I would say are much better holding and quicker responding than the factory '87 solenoid.

Quicker responding and better holding?

What did you base that on?

I've lost one solenoid in 17 years because I broke the end off it. ;)

It still held pressure.

You only need the aftermarket stuff for bells and whistles and if you outflow the stock setup.

Stock ? Ain't nothing stock left but the block.

Innovative works great.

I had the innovative one and could not get it to ever work right with the stock style wg. I even had a super guru help out with no success.

The solenoid switches on and off at different rates in order to maintain boost. Obviously certain switches have a shorter latency than others. There is also the issue of quality. I'm not talking about physically breaking the solenoid, or questioning that it holds pressure. I'm saying that not all solenoids are created equal. For example, the e-01 I have(for sale) is Greddy's top of the line controller. The solenoid is the best offered by them and is copied in controllers by other companies such as Apex'i. It also comes with a pressure sensor for monitoring manifold pressure. Now, the factory Buick ECM is not even aware of the specific boost pressure. It only knows whether there is boost or not(think: true/false). You can see where this is going... A faster switching, quality solenoid, plus an accurate pressure sensor feeding it information by which to adjust itself. I can set it for 15.6lbs of boost if I wanted, and it would hold it just fine at that decimal. Since the Buick ECM only know if it's under boost or not, it can not accurately command the solenoid to be so steady. Which is why I say it's only a notch better at holding boost than a standard bleeder valve(however unadjustable it is). I hope this makes sense, and is not hard to follow.

I know this will irritate a lot of people....but here goes

there is absolutely no reason for a boost controller unless you are a full on race car looking for consistent launch, etc

the stock wastegate will do the job (even without the solenoid)

these things, for the most part, fall into the same catagory as blow off valves

but....its your $$$$:)
