End play

How much end play is too much?

I can move the shaft side to side enough where the vanes almost hit the bore (compressor side).

Wow I guess I got my answer after searching...

And the answer is no in and out play but a "little" side to side up and down whatever you want to call it. A little is ok, so what's a "little"?

if its not hitting it should be o.k. the oil helps center the shaft when it is running. all my turbos seem to have side to side movement, the cars, pickup & a couple tractors too
