I would recommend gloss.Ive got a motor with 6k painted with glossblack and it now looks like semigloss, it still looks good.My other motor has 12k on it and was painted with semigloss now it looks a little dull. Doing a side by side comparison gloss looks better over time.

Thanks guys...I went with "low gloss". I've put 9k miles on the car since '94...so it should hold up OK for a while anyway :)

I painted mine gloss and its sure hard to see any leaks. Not like Chevy orange were you see every drop you spill let alone leaks:)

Geno, You should get someone that knows what they are doing to help you with assembly so it doesn't leak:D JK

Everybody likes a nice ass but nobody likes a smart ass:D
Hehe Your right though im going to have to talk to my dumb ass engine builder about it:cool: Wait a minute thats me:eek:

i just recently tried a Duplicolor high heat black came out VERY nice just my 2 cents

I can't remember exactly why they say not to use it (gloss) but...... it has something to do with it maybe being a dirt magnet or gets sticky when hot. Wish I know for sure but that is my story and I am sticking to it!

Geno, Your a deburring machine! I am sure that your assembly skills are top notch as well!

Have you been to the track yet with that new Stage I motor? I remember what you said about breaking it in right!

In the world of interrior and exterior house paints the higher the gloss the more durable the paint! That's the only contribution I can make.

Has anyone ever had a block powder coated?

Its been 137.7 mph and 9.97:) Drove the car 540mile and went 10.14 through the mufflers and tail pipes on dot,s:) That right were i want to be without a cage:) 22# boost got me in the 9,s so i slowed the car down by putting on the full exhaust and dot,s.
Plus its up to 3550# with me in it with the new stereo:D I either had to put a cage in it or slow it down:)

in the world of house paints the higher the gloss the shorter the life cause the chemicals used to make the gloss breaks the paint down faster.house trim painted in gloss will have a much shorter lifespan than if it were painted with flat paint.if theres one thing i learned by working two years in the nyc painters union this would be it.
