Every time I get any water in my engine compartment my voltage
rises to over 18 volts. After 4 days, whatever gets wet finally dries out an goes back to normal. I thought it was the alternator so today while cleaning, I made sure the alternator didn't get ANY water on it. The problem surfaced again.

Question: What is getting wet to create such a problem? Is this a common problem for others? I have seen spotless engines on street machines..how do they do it? Does this make my car an exception?

I'm a new T-Type owner (about 1 1/2 years) Got a lot of learning to do!

Thanks,

Roger

Sounds like the car is equipped with a volt booster and that's what's getting wet. Same thing happens on my car, so I remove it or I can seal it in a plastic baggy.

Engine Cleaning

Hi John,

Thanks for the info, BUT....What and where is the VOLT BOOSTER?

By the way, I live in Orlando...

Roger

There's a couple different kinds that I know of. Mine is connected to the alternator. Another type is connected to vacuum and the alternator. Have someone take a look who would know. You don't have to have one. Just know when mine gets wet, it causes the voltage to be high as you've described with your car.
