Has anyone had their hot air engine catch on fire because the turbo was too hot? This happened to me and completely destroyed my 85 WH1
 
yes,this happened to my 83.... back in 1993.......top end run(running a stang) and caught on fire,poped the hood,and found a spark plug boot was on fire:eek: ....turbo was cherry red...put it out with a mountain dew;) .......
those were the days.....

Not yet, but everytime I head up a long, steep grade all I can think about is that turbo turning bright red. Then I start feathering the thottle.
 
i had my hotair catch fire once. problem was the up-pipe has a leak which caused the sagging hood liner to catch on fire. it burnt alot but i got it all fixed. IMO if your hoodliner is in good shape and you have the proper heat shield in place it wont effect anything. If your worried get the bigger heat shield from buickgn.com and put some heat resistant sheets behind that. thats how i have fine and its always super cool under there.
 
you should get one of those pillar mounted fire extinguishers lol
