Engine was pulled by the previous owner to do the timing chain. I am tearing it down completly to make sure I wont have any problems with it. I am planning on replacing the bearings, cam, gaskets. Also I am going to rebuild the heads in the next couple weeks planning on porting them, new seals, valve springs and a 3 angle valve job. Also going to port the intake while I am at it. Are there any web pages with good rebuilding info on these engines like part numbers for different gaskets and bearings. Thanks.

I have a bunch of pics of my porting job at the address in my signature below.
You can also find our intake ported out and sold at iwinengineering.com.

I'd say you are at the right place for ANY info you might need to do that rebuild. I did mine going in blind - I knew nothing about these engines and did a complete tear down / rebuild +++ with the help of everyone on this site.

gnttype.org is a great resource and casperselectronics.com is also a great place for parts and tech help you may need.

Best advice - post your questions here !!!

Why should I leave the stock one in? Just figured that since because some of the lifters werent in there I would replace the whole setup. I blasted the heads on wednesday and cut the valves today but I got out 2 hours early so I didnt have time to do the 3 angle valve job, going to port and polish them and use LT1 springs. Thanks.

if the stock cam is damaged then yea replace it but.. you dont need a huge cam to go fast in one of these cars.. plenty of guys go fast with the stock one.

hotair throttle bodies only work..

i think some guys on here have some hogged out ones for sale..

I used a Dremel with several bits. First I used a coarse grinding stone (good luck finding one that lasts) to take off the rough casting flash. I also used a metal grinding bit to remove a good part of the housing around the valve and round it out to make it aerodynamic for smooth flow.

Second, I used a 60 Grit sandpaper roll bit that smooths it out nicely. Gotta use a real small bit 'cause not much room to work.

I also used a 120 Grit roll as well but you can probably skip that...I went a 'lil overkill I think. 60 Grit is plenty smooth.

Yes - thats true.

I used a 120 grit flapper wheel and it worked real well on the combustion chamber part of the heads.

Is there any web page out there that has specs on the different bolts in the motor. I got it as a short block and have no clue where most bolts are. Thanks

Best I could suggest is the GM Factory Service Manual.

Some guys on this board have it or you can order it online.

So it didn't come with the bolts or it came disassembled and you have the bolts....
I can assist as best I can...since I did mine in the dark having NO Buick experience at all and no manuals....
