The main wire loom around the engine that's in the hard plastic square loom is always in the way. It eats up the clearance behind the valve covers and makes things nearly impossible to see, not to mention making valve cover removal a real PIA. Has anyone ever converted to just large 1" wire loom? I'd also like to raise the whole loom up the firewall a bit. I've considered sectioning in extensions on all the wires at least on the driver side just to get a little slack to work with (soldered connections with shrink tubing of course). Any thoughts or alternatives?

John, you are right, the engine loom is a real big PIA, especially on a car that gets worked on lots. For a few years, I have removed them and simply used electrical tape to bind the wires. Simple, inexpensive and makes it much easier to work around and keep the engine clean.

With aftermarket valve covers, the taped harness looks and fits MUCH better.
