I'm looking into purchasing an SMC kit, but don't want to use the box for a couple of it's functions. Example: I would like to mount a switch somewhere else to turn on the alky and mount the lights on my center console gauge pod. All other functions I would keep in the control box and hide it in the ashtray or some other out of the way place. Has anyone ever taken apart one of the boxes to do anything like this? If so, what would be involved? Would it be just a matter of entending the wires to mount this stuff where I want? Is it even possible with this kit?

Yeah....I've had a peek inside. Just don't tell Steve?!?!

The power switch would be a no-brainer. As far as the lights, I don't know. They are just LED's, but I'm no electrical engineer....

I would suggest you give Steve Chlupsa a call or send him an e-mail of what you would like. He is a great guy and will answer any questions you have.

Excellent, thanks. LEDs are no problem and the power switch should be simple. I just didn't want to take it apart and screw the whole thing up. Glad someone took it apart first :D

Thanks again

I've heard of people hooking up the POWER INJECTION light in the dash, as well as hooking up the low fuel light that is in the dash.

I modified mine a bit to get the turn on signal.

The wiring is tight and needs to be very carefully done.

LED's should be used in the dash and a high brightness white or yellow one will easily illuminate the dash writing.

I used my turn on signal to light a separate LED in my digital boost gauge and I'm building a latch that will tell me within 1 psi. where the alky. turns on. :)

Don't tell Steve. ;)

PS: Unless you are a really good solderer :D it will definately void the warranty. The controller is very robust however assuming all the wiring is done right. :)

The on light & low alky lights can be picked up anywhere in the harness between th e alky resevor & th control box. You can leave the on off switch in the on position & put an external switch in the 12v power line. no need to open th ebox for any of these reasons.
