exhaust dump question

is back pressure necessary for for the 87 turbo motor or can you just run it straight and get the same horsepower torque relatively

mines runs really strong when i have it open and when i close it it doesnt run the same. AND IT AINT NOTHININ LIKE THE TURBO WHISTLE !!!!!!!!

A good exhaust system will do the same as a dump pipe power wise. It's been brought up before and several people have seen no change in 1/4 mile times with the dump open or closed, but they had a really good exhaust system, not a cheap one.
