extreme detonation w/ hi+low boost

hi gang, tried to read up in serch, but lots of areas to pinpoint

finaly got the car to a point to start playing with it as far as performance goes

well with the thrasher street chip, i am unable to go more than 10-11 lbs boost without audible knock, the numbers were high
this was with 45 static fuel pressure

so far i can tell this much, the fuel pressure is matching the boost,

i dont think its false knock ,not sure

tried 2 gallons of cam 2 100 unleaded on top of 3/4 tank of MOBIL 93

still nothing
i was using the thrasher as opposed to the stock because i understood the thrasher to have less timing, but i tried the stocker and an old kb hi lo for the heck of it, i noticed the knock only increased

the o2 mv's on scanmaster were around 820 plus

so this morning for more ****s and giggles i ran a lame ground to the coil pack base, kicked the static fp down to 42 lbs, and turned the boost down

knock retard is very much still present,o2's still around 800 plus and getting kr around 8.x not even hitting 10lbs a boost

even at mid to 3/4 throttle apx 5lbs boost i got 3.8 retard



SO.....

next i will try the egr test, but much after that i am kinda stumped

pump is new ,injectors are old

car runs fine both part and full throttle (in other words its not breaking up) so i am wonderign if i should consider coil pack

plugs and wires are apx 6000 miles old AC delco 8mm wires and 43 plugs

i read o2' mv aim should be like 790-810 does this sound good

any suggestions

Run the tank almost dry. Put in 5 - 7 gallons of 110 race fuel (make sure you have no catalytic convertor) and then see if you get knock at that low of boost. What kind of boost gauge are you using? If the stock one get your self a known good one. It could be llying to you.
 
hello ,the boost guage is a vdo0-30, i have a second guage i could hook up for comparison, i may have to try the high oct stuff,leaded wont be a prob :-)

well while i am waiting to run this tank low, i tried to crank the fp at the rail, knock didnt go away,but it did get reduced some

think maybe i should be looking towards a bad injector or something???,going to doublecheck the harness over the egr area
 
still not low enough to add some race gas, so i turned the boost down from 14lbs to like just under 10

fuel pressure apx 43 static,stock chip

gave her a quick wot,still audible and got up to 39.xx KR

are these #'s real, or would only false knock create a number that hi

and wot o2mv @830

i am worried to go lower on the fp, with all that retard

i would just think that a lean condition would be along side all this knock

still stumped, i was thinking about a bad injector or something, but then wouldnt the o2 be lower(leaner)???
 
well,unable to get any race gas locally,so maybe can hunt some down thi s weekend

i tried the egr valve thing,car stumbled but wouldnt die



swapped in buddys coil and wires while his is down for overhaul

no diff


so ran tank low enough and put in 10 bucks of sun 94

i was able to run more boost

so i ended up back to 45 at the rail and getting about 5 kr at15lbs

apx 830mv


so maybe i ran into some bad gas

its hard to say cause this will be first attempt to tune car with scan tool and baseline


never had boost up before or had any thing to refer too,had so many thing s i had to fix before i could start to get to the point where i am now


well hopefully by the weekend can use up some more gas and get some hi oct stuff in there

thanks to those who responded,seems to be getting better,but not out of the water yet

ideally i would be happy to run 15lbs boost on 93 with the thrasher

but just not getting it yet

Got some race gas

well was able to track down 5gal of vp108 leaded, i was too impatient to wait,so i added to 1/4 tank of sun 94

knock as almost disapeared, think i was able to sqeek 19lbs out of it with like 1.5 kr

so hopefully,ounce this dilutes back down with a tank or two of gas(switching over to sun94)(was using mobil),i will be able to runat least 15lbs boost on the thrasher

dam ,i used to run atr pitbull with the 93 stuff never had this much problem

2 seperate cars,but still

does gas really suck that much these days, alchy injection is sounding better and better
 
Some gas really does suck. Gotta be careful where you get it.

It sounds very much like you got a load of 87 octane in there somehow. It'll do exactly as you describe.
