Hey guys I figured I would show off my oil pan that I am in the process of modifying to work with the TA external oil pump. I have had this pan for several years and it had the deep sump put on well before I got it. Whoever did the sump did OK but it is definitely not professional quality. I am a firm believer in doing things yourself and keep at it until it comes out the way you like. I took a stock oil pick up and cut of the tube. It is spot welded in one place and also welded around where it goes into the screened part of the pick up. I drilled it out with a unibit being careful not to hit the screen. It was a chore.
I am using -12 hose out of the pan so I got a 3/4 npt pipe that was 3 1/2 inches long and fit it to the pickup. I also used a 3/4npt coupling to go through the side of the pan. After locating the 3/4 pipe into the screen I brazed it into place. I took my time and was very careful to make sure everything was straight and even.

After the pick up was complete and to my satisfaction I drilled a hole in the side of the pan to fit the coupling. I had to use a carbide bur bit to open it up and make it in the right place. The pickup is 3/8ths off of the bottom of the pan. I mig welded the coupling to the pan and the went over the weld with a gas welding torch to make sure all the metal was fused so there would be no leaks. I then smoothed out that weld and went back over it with the mig welder again. I am pleased with it so far. The next step is to add baffling and a trap door. What do you guys think?

Made a change today. I should have had the AN fitting on hand when I was fitting the pickup tube. I wound up cutting off the coupling right at the top of the MIG weld. I also cut off the NPT portion of the -12 AN fitting. I had a friend weld it with his TIG rig and a 316 stainless rod. Now the fitting doesn't stick out so far like it did before. I still have to design a front baffle/tray to keep the oil from uncovering the pick up. Any thoughts on what if anything should be done differently?
