I heard that an extra quart of trans fluid will help avoid the starvation of fluid during WOT...any suggestions. thanks

i was doing it when i had the stock pan on my old trans cause i was told the same thing.:D

Yes it works....

but it is not a reccomended cure, just a way to verify that you are haveing a starvation problem. If it helps then you have a problem, beware of foaming oil and possible venting oil out of vent tube when hot. Correct cure would be bottom feeder sump or deeper pan. :)

ATF Starvation Cure

The easiest way to cure the oil starvation problem is no to accelerate too fast. But if you can't handle that, adding a quart helps but the PTS bottom feeder pans cure. Your choice help or cure.

Search the board, lots of chat on this subject including testimonials of lead-footed users.

Here's a "scary", simple calculation --

a car with 2.0 second 60ft times averages about 1g acceleration-- it's probably more than that in the first 40 ft or so.

1g acceleration means there is as much force pushing fluid backward in pan, as gravity force pulling the fluid down.

Under these conditions, the fluid in an open tray or pan would slosh to the rear and the surface of the fluid would make an angle of 45º  (front low, rear high).

Now, a tranny pan is not exactly like an open baking pan ... there are a lot of obstructions in the tranny bottom that might prevent a true 45º angle from ever happening -- but it gives you an idea of how much fluid leaves the front of pan and sloshes to rear !
