factory headers cracked... now what?

i was replacing the plugs and wires on my 85' GN yesterday and while removing stuff i noticed my headers were cracked where the #5 primary tube meets the "collector". ive heard this is a common problem for these cars. now i originally wanted a good baseline for future mods, as well as seeing what a well tuned bone stock hotair was capable of (i was shooting for high 14s).

so what options do i have for replacing them? i want to stay as stock as possible, so i considered stock replacement manifolds, but if theyre anywhere near the cost of aftermarket ones, why bother? so far ive only found one company that makes a set... Poston. their ceramic coated headers retail for $500. are they any good or does someone else make a better set? thanks in advance

postons are great headers. atr makes a nice set too.. you can repair your old ones though.. just have them welded up...

I have a set of 85 stock headers collecting dust. I replaced them with Poston headers. The key change is the passenger side header. The Poston headers work great. The headers have 89,000 miles on them and are not cracked. You can have them for $15.00 plus shipping. Good Luck- Brad

I would say either weld yours up or by Brad's. If you do buy Brad's I will still have your originals welded. Sooner or later they all crack. HTH.
