Ok turbofish or Mr. Richard Clark, this one's for you guys. Which parts on our cars, are tied to our cars specifically thru serial numbers. For example, if a Concourse D' Elegance judge was trying to find out if that was the stock IC or turbo etc. etc. that came with OUR car specifically. Whats linked thru numbers and what's not.

Thats a tuffy. I guess anything that has a part number cast or printed on it. I know when I look at low mile cars I always check the starter and alternator numbers. I also check the radiator tag and if I pull a wheel I like to see Delco spec numbers painted on the side of the brake pads. You can also check the turbo for the Garrett/AiResearch number tag. The IC should have the original foil tag with the Garrett and GM part numbers on it.I've got a GM replacement IC and the tag it has is really different. I've noticed on my 86 GN and other TR's that there is a hand engraved build date etched on the IC as well. AC compressors have a unique decal too. The only parts with a VIN stamping that I can think of are the engine block and transmission case.

It would be kind of fun to have a N.C.R.S. type of concours judging at some of the Buick events. The only problem would be writing the rule book. I know I've tried several times. The only big problem is that these cars came out after the collectable craze started and most no mile owners aren't into any of the Buick organizations. And unlike the Vette and other muscle car groups I could care less if my car has the correct paint markings or defects. Now what would be funny if this was the case would be to find some judges with enough qualifacations to be Concours D'Elegance level judges. I hope to be around when they allow Turbo Buicks onto the green at Peeble Beach.:)

or the green at cranbrook in michigan :)
sure, our cars arent THAT rare yet, but they sure are interesting examples of specialty cars. just wait, i bet my life, that they will indeed be rare and odd enough in the future, to be at the concourse shows. Maybe 20 years or so. Most of us wil see it too i bet.
