I only have a few thousands miles on a rebuild with all the good parts. It's been shifting great no sign of any problems. It sat in the garage for a week and now it doesn't want to shift without letting up on the gas. I checked the fluid thinking it could be low, but it was good. It seems like something simple, what could it be?

Disconnect And Yank The Tv Cable 20 X With The Engine Off And Then With Engine Running.connect Cable And Road Testy.

It could be the 1st gear clutch band if it shifts when letting off the gas but does not shift when driving. On a newly rebuilt trans, I once had a defective clutch band fail because the rivets were not properly braised on it and my trans guy R&R'd it under warranty.

Messed with tv cable and no difference. You can run the rpm's up and it won't shift until you get out of the gas. Then if you accelerate too fast it will down shift again. That's in any gear. Does that sound like governor spring? If so, is that something I could fix by dropping pan?

Did the TV cable spring back when you pulled on it? Seeing that its happy to downshift and taking forever to upshift it seems like maybe the cable came undone and has gone to full TV pressure. It could also be the governor spring as well although i don't know first hand if that will cause the downshifting issue as well.

if it was the gov spring it wont shift out of first until you hit 5000 rpms .is this the case?if so drop the pan and check for spring.are you sure its not just slipping and passing over 2nd gear and going right to 3rd?put it in d2 and see if it shifts.

JUst drove it again. It looks like it is skipping over 2nd. I put it in d2 (I have a transbrake). It will go up over 5000 and not shift. Then put it in 3rd and let up on it and it goes into 3rd. When it downshifts it just revs up since it can't find 2nd. So what does that mean? It has the hp kit from CK and I have the book. A local trans guy built it. It has felt great with no signs of slippage.

What i would do is get the car up in the air and have a friend go inside and go from 1st to 2nd while you push the servo cover inward with a lever and see if it pushes back when it is supposed to shift into second. I think around 16mph with minimal TV. If it does then the the band anchor is broken, or the apply lug is broken. If there is no 2nd oil then the vb has an issue.

Maybe a broken 2nd gear band like someone said above. Another way to check it is to get the car out of 1st and into whatever gear it goes to about 45mph in DRIVE. While cruising, pull it back into 2 and see what it does. If you feel no kickdown to 2nd give it some throttle and if the engine revs, you have found your problem. Dont ask me how I know.........

When I shift back down into second it just revs. Will this mean; pull the tranny. I am putting a new timing cover gasket on it because it sprung a coolant leak. When I get it on I was going to my trans guy and run it up on his lift. If it has to be pulled I could probably save some money and I'm getting pretty good at it.

Yeah, you have to pull it to my knowledge....... we are getting good at it here too!

When I bought the WE4 it had the same problem. We just sent it to our local tranny guy and had him go through it with some good parts, mostly stock rebuild on a mostly stock car.............

Pulled the trans and got it to my guy. The 2nd gear band was burned down to the metal. He was wondering if I need a different (billet) servo. He was thinking that it was not putting enough pressure on the 2nd band. It sounds like I need a new drum too.

The serrvo assembly was probably bottoming out before the band was applied. The builder should be able to pinpoint this. Maybe the drum was turned down too much which wont matter now or the apply pin is too short.

I've got my guy talking to Chris at CK, since that is where I got all the parts from. I'll have them check those things that you mentioned. I'll post the results.
