I've noticed that now my fan isn't kicking on quite frequently. Often, it runs for about 5 minutes after I shut off the car (even with a 160 stat), other times it doesn't run at all. SM is showing coolant temps in the 180's and 190's when cruising in light traffic.
I suspect the fan delay relay is bad.
Are these only available through GM or a GM supplier, or do the auto parts retail chains sell these relays (i.e. PepBoys, Strauss, Auto Zone)?
Could it also be the fan temp or coolant temp switch?

Based on my readings, the fan delay relay only comes on when the temp exceeds 205 degrees on engine shut down. It is possible that with a 160 thermostat, there will be times that the engine does not reach that temp on shutdown.

I've had the SM on for three days, and although the car hasn't hit 205, the fan has kicked on after turning off the motor a few times.
The fan rarely kicks on when the motor is running, even with temps over 195. When it does kick on, the temps drop down significantly.
I ordered a new GM fan delay relay from Kirbans today. If that doesn't get my temps down, I need to look at a new radiator or hardwiring the fan to run on high when the motor is running.

I think these relays are worthless. I've got a brand new relay on my car, and it never works like it should. I turn the key forward to roll down the windows, and the fan kicks on, and I never even turned on the engine. Just wire it up to a switch so that you have real control over it.
