This may be the wrong spot for it but At what point do the exhaust manifolds be came a huge power loss?

ive seen people go mid 9s on stock manifolds.
i personally dont belive there to be much "bang for the buck" with aftermarket headers unless you need a t4 or t6 flange.

you can always port and reweld your stockers to be better than new. and you can also run a larger diamerter crossover pipe.

They should be good for over 140mph. I went 137 on 22.5 psi with ported stockers. I switched to aftermarket only to mount a 4 bolt turbo.

Ill be running a set of stockers with my new engine. It should be good for 140+mph. The 3 bolt flange is more of a problem then the rest of the design as already stated.

bump

I was just about to start a thread asking this question...... and I found this one after a quick search.........with John Snyder running over 143 mph..... it is plain to me that the stock headers are not so bad....... IMHO.... there is too many people jumping ship..... to buy the bigger headers thinking they "need" them.

BTW - John's pass was running pump gas and alky no less.....

Since the thread is nearly a year old..... thought I would bump it to the top to see if anyone had any updates?

Really need to start a list.....

1.) 143.28 MPH John Snyder
2.)
3.)

Wow ..old old thread!! Melissa went 138.17 with stockers .. Do they work ??? HELL YA !! BUT if you DRIVE the car like us they do crack again and again. She has driven this 9 sec set up for 2 1/2 years. 15K miles. So if ya just drive your cars 100 miles a year like most on here the stockers will do just fine :p

Like Dan mentioned---cracks are the biggest issue. Not that aftermarkets don't crack, it's that the stockers are now 20+ years old, and metal fatigue is unavoidable.

I believe I have developed a crack in the drivers side manifold. Where is the common spot for a crack so that I can verify?

Im pretty sure Terry Houston ran 8s with stock manifolds.

If the stockers keep cracking due to fatigue, is there a suitable aftermarket replacement that provides roughly the same HP/Torque for us slower guys (11-12sec)?

Common place is where the #3 and #5 tubes intersect...... I welded mine up and installed a gusset inbetween the tubes....

I went 133.4mph @28.5psi and 3600+lbs.with stockers. Never got any time slips at 33psi. It would have been in the 137-139mph range based on duty cycle. I have TH headers on the car now though.
