Looking for some guidance on my 87 GN.

I'm facing the 3rd rebuild of my 200-4R in 2 years and it's getting kind of old. Starts with a flare in the 2-3 shift and then starts to do other things. For example, when its cold it will back out of the garage just fine but then when shifted into drive, it will spin but not engage the tranny until it gets warm.

Tranny has all the billet parts from Bruce Toelle's catalog and it worked very good until about 2 years ago.

The local builder is pretty good and has freshened up several GN's for local guys here in OKC. I don't think he is up to date with the parts that are available for these cars.

I know there are some great builders out there but I'm not too shot in the rear with shipping it off half way around the country to someone I don't know.

I'd like to get some recommendations on what rebuild kits are preferred by guys with cars that perform at this level. I drive mine much more than I race it but I also play with it a lot.

Will appreciate any feedback I can get.

Thanks.

Phil Engle

That 200 can be a curse to the wrong builder. Just like the 109 block to the wrong machine shop.

Any UPDATES!!!!!!

JD, I'm trying to get mine out of the tranny shop and head to the track. LOTS of carnage this time.

I put my POS back together. Got a deal on a new turbo & IC I couldnt say no too. Also did some other stuff. Runs ok. Makes 26psi through the pipes. It's currently sitting in my garage until I find out where all this oil is leaking from.... Im thinking the oil galley plugs in the back....

Really hope you ALL guys plan on racin TAI !!!!!!!!!

YOU'RE NOT GONNA WANT TO MISS BOWLING GREEN!!!!!!!

TRUST ME!!!!

Made a couple baseline runs on my car at Cecil County Friday night.

Best pass was a 11.46@123 with a 1.99 60' on the Falken street tires. 25psi. Fighting a high DC issue and a voltage issue. Its also time to put headers on it. The DS stocker is thrashed..

This what can happen if you leave you hand on the shifter handle and the shifter is not locked in 3rd. Focused on racing and realized the engine was screaming, glanced at the dash and almost had a "Depends moment". Still can't believe it did not blow up.

I don't know how that held together. Wow.

I am still amazed. 2 1/2 months later, runs 10.37 @132 after breaking 3 teeth off the ring gear. Car was really acting up at the 2013 Buick Ford Shootout so I withdrew from the race and later found some power robbing problems with it and got those fixed but after the local track had closed for the year. Having the tranny worked over as the power level has changed. Seems to have as much power at 20 lbs of boost as it did at 24 lbs after the power robbing problems were resolved.

Anxious to get it running again.

The engine problems were

1) Screw backed out of the IAC. Found it with a leak test kit when it started howling like noon whistle.

2) EGR port had been epoxied shut but the plug had come out and was dancing with the valves in #1 port. Lots of air coming out of the EGR blocking plate.

3) Stock valve covers with spacer and metal removed on the inside were too short and the rockers were hitting them. Got new set from Tom at Champion.

4) Headers and DP bolts had worked loose and loosing a lot of air there.

5) Turbo was cleaned and JB/s replaced.

6) There were others but these were the majors ones.
