Look behind the driver's side headlight, it's about the size of a coffee can, has two vacuum lines going to it. (It's in the enging bay)

His car probably has an aftermarket gas tank. I bought a new spectra tank for my car last spring and I hate it. I have to literally drip the gas into the tank and I have all new lines on my car and the charcoal canister isn't even hooked up. I read on an el camino forum that the ventilation in the neck isn't adaquate enough. I can't wait to get my car painted and try putting gas in it and have it splatter all over me and my new paint. SHould have left the N/A tank in it:mad:

Pretty common problem. Mine does it and it has been that way since the day I bought it back in '88. Probably does have something to do with not enough venting in the neck. You will just have to play around with your car to see where the sweet spot is for the nozzle. Some have to hold the nozzle side ways. Some will work jammed all the way in. Mine I have to pull back about 2 inches to get it to fill quickly. Push mine all the way in and it trips the nozzle shut off everytime.
