First day at the track

I went to the track rental yesterday for my first shakedown passes after a major overhauling of my car's exhaust, heads, cam, wheels/tires, and engine management (XFI and distributor).

I left the boost low just to make sure everything was up to snuff with the car itself before BG.

Cal, set me up with a good start up program.
No pops or sputters at anytime.
Nice an clean except when I ignore the shift light..

Heres an overview.

First pass left on idle 16 psi climbing to 19 in the top of the third:

60' 2.138 (2500 no boost on foot brake)
1/8 7.82 @99.43
1/4 11.77 @ 124.13

Pretty good MPH for low boost. No log on this one. Computer shut down in the staging lanes thanks to JD blowing a HG..

Second pass Left everything the same except left with a little boost on the footbrake. This time I logged the run.

60' 1.65
1/8 7.18 @ 99.08
1/4 11.16 @123.4

Still feeling good. Everything seems to be right with the car, now to start a little tuning. The AFR was between 9.8 to 10.2 the whole pass. Pig Rich.

Dropped a few numbers in the VE table and changed some in the spool up area.

Third pass 16 psi again slowly going to 20.2 psi at the shifts .
Left at 14psi and 3800 rpm on 2-step.

60' 1.60
1/8 6.94 @ 101.53
1/4 10.83 @ 125.66

A big thanks for Cal for getting this thing running as quick as before in one day, at half the boost. Thanks to Julio for answering some of my XFI questions while at the track. I'm feeling good about the car again now and look forward to turning the boost back up to the TSM regulated 24 psi. I am hoping for some good numbers in BG.

Now I'm off to the dyno.........

Good job !

But remember...you only got 3.8lbs. of boost left, THAT's the max for TSM, don't you know. Still should be good for high 9's ;)
Not sleeping much these days you gearhead, hugh ? If you could (and so would I) i'd be starting to drive up already...

Things are looking GREAT! Do you think you'll be able to stabalize the boost creep to zero? So you can take full advantage of the allocated 24# you're alowed?

Yes, boost was creeping because of the VE table. As the rpms go up and the fuel goes up the boost was coming up. I will be working on stabilizing the AFRs during the runs that should do it. I had a very rich tune for safety reasons. Don't want to pop it before BG..lol

I know, I know. I haven't slept much the past few weeks. Getting ready for BG, building a couple trannys for locals, all the household stuff is limiting my sleep time. Don broke a yoke yesterday at the track, which took out the case. We're going to swap the guts tonight so he can make it to the dyno on wednesday.

My wife asked me how I function on 2-3 hours of sleep a day last night after getting back from the track..

Great seeing you there as well.. We ran similar numbers..
1.816
4.831
7.305
100.64
9.463
11.274
123.22

At 22 PSI..

I'll help you with the XFI at BG and give you that driveshaft exploding tuneup   :D

There are some pixs at Tamparacing.com from yesterday.. hopefully next day or so.. video's will be up..

Roy.. see 50 miles of break in.. all thats required ;)

I see how you guys are. I am not allowed alky for 2000 miles til mine breaks I mean breaks in ;) but you guys race right off the trailer & off the street on brandnew junk.

It was so hot out thurr but still fun. Loved seeing the u pull it special beat down a supercar. :o

I cant say enough on how happy I am with my trans that Jason built for me. Now Don is getting another trans & lets hope he doesnt throw a converter out the bellhousing next on them betty crocker cake baking sessions :D

Hey Jason looks like Richie needs to get some rust holes in the floor like my car so he can do the flintstone routine to stop his car through the traps

TR definitely had rice a roni but the Turbo Regals & TTA's did there thing!

Yes, I just finished swapping Don's tranny over to a good case and fixing a few odds and ends so he could take his car to dyno on Wed. We found that his output shaft is warped or something you can't even put a yoke on it. He made a comment that ever since he got that forged yoke that it was hard to slide onto the output shaft. I'm thinking the output shaft was the culprit. We replaced with a good one so he should be good to go.

I really took it easy on the launches.. Kinda wished I would have stood her up for the cameras..

The best way to break it in is to run it hard. If it breaks, it needed to be fixed.
