I would like to know what are some of the cheaper or free mods I can perform on my stock engine? I would like to get a decent cheap chip that works with the stock injectors & any other easy mods to make it run right. Thank you,

As for your "chip request" I would have to tell you to get a thrasher chip. Can't go wrong for the money and a whole lot better than the stock chip. Well worth the $25.

Second purchase should be a scantool (ScanMaster, TurboLink, DirectScan) if you ever want your car to stay running and your modifications to actually make you go faster. Do a search for cars with $3,000 in mods running 14's, there are a ton of them out there and we don't need any more!!!

Cheap and free Mods

Get the stock fuel pump and pickup sock replaced first !!!!(racetronix or full throttle, these vendors are the best deals)
Then hotwire the fuel pump (same vendors)
Now get a scan tool I like the scanmaster.
For the chips go to www.gnttype.org and look under the vendor (drop down window on right side of the screen) section many, many vendors avail.
Fuel pump kit about $180-200, hotwire kit $80-90, scanmaster $250ish, chip $75-90(if go with the same vendor for a chip reburn for injec change, etc the reburn cost is considerably cheaper).

Some free mods
1. Take the coolant lines off the throttle body(plug or loop them),
2. Jump out the resistor on the coolant fan, you will see one wire on 1 end of the resistor and 2 wires on the other end. Just take the single wire and put it on the end with the 2 wires. This mod will allow the fan to run on high whenever energized and shed amps off the electrical system.
3. Gut cat.... your choice on emissions compliance.

Some stuff off the top of my head. Do your homework and read up all u can on gnttype.

Just curious...how does "shedding amps" help?

I'm really new to these cars and trying to understand as much as possible.:)

Man this was brought back from the dead. :)
Hopefully someone can give an answer.

Fan resistor slows the fan to run slow speed. Valve springs should be replaced, good tune, settings checked, TB throttle plate opening all the way, clean the TB and IAC, are some additional things to check. Good Luck. Gene

Replaced the valve springs last week and tested the stockers today. 78lbs. @ 1.724 on all of them....

Lol I was reading and not looking at dates wondering why people suggest the thrasher chip. This was long before my time, but TurboTweak is the way to go.
