Sup HOMETOWNS....I got me truck back with the 2004R installed from a credible "master" mechanic/fabricator....Although....I have to question his adjustment on the TV cable and I sure don't want toasted clutches.

(I haven't thrashed the pedal for breaking in purposes of the trans cluthes and the like, I have only been giving it part throttle, maybe half at the most)

1) First gear feels like a "granny gear" and to my understanding that means that it's a very quick and "funky" reving until the change into second gear. It revs ok up to a certain point and then it begins to bog down/crawl...and then BAM! A big "clunk" and second gear comes into play and chirps the tire...not sure I like that. Don't want to be crusing around town chirping the fuking tire all the time! I trully believe it must not be adjusted correctly. It does not feel smooth up until the shift to third. Is this a natural thing with 2004R's? I'm new to the OD game, since I had a powerglide before the swap, don't know squat bout these OD's...

2) With my brothers OD in his 2001 Chevy truck I noticed whether he's in second gear or third gear, when he thrashes the throttle it always kicks it back a gear...With this 2004R...If I'm in second gear/third gear and jam on the pedal it doesn't shift down a gear. Does one have to do it manually? I thought the TV cable would take care of that or the 12 volt hook-up?

As for OD, it's the bomb! It felt smooth and the revs were pretty low. It wasn't a strong a gear as I had hoped for, but NOW I now it's not a gear for passing on two lane highways/roads....

Bought it from Phoenix.

Thanks for any help, chevytown

TV Cable

You should not drive your truck at all until you are sure the TV cable is properly adjusted!

Cable should be piano-wire tight when throttle is a wide open.

Search this section of the board, there are several post that provide detailed explanations and instructions for properly setting up the TV cable.

The second gear clunck could be caused by several things but it sounds to me like the lockup is already engaged. Again, search the board for ways to properly wireup the lockup.

If you cannot solve your problem you need to describe how you currently have TV and lockup setup to get help.

Ask your master trannie guy for the operating pressures at closed and full TV, he should have tested for this before the you drove the car.

Muchas gracias Clay. It's actually feeling better the more I drive it. I was just afraid to blip the throttle in fear of not breaking in the trans properly. That was my "granny feel" in 1st I'm sure, with the light throttle. Now that I'm giving it more gas, it's a gas man...It get's going and the shift into second is firm. I have been searching this site and chirping the tires in 2nd gear sounds like a normal routine. The strong shifts as well....

The OD is mated to a L6/250cid. The TV cable connecting to the TBI throttle is in an akward position due to the nature of the L6 with the TBI unit sitting parrallel to the inline. Thus, the throttle bracket is not adjacent to the fender, it's adjacent toward the radiator.

I'll call 'em this Monday and check and ask for those pressure #'s. Thanks again Clay and it's ALL ABOUT THE GENERAL MOTORS GANG!

And the way it went is the way it should go....LOL

Cool beans!

Now the big ? will it last.. LOL! you said "Bought it from Phoenix. " I haven't heard anything yet about theirs, let us know how it holds up?

This trans is like WAY stronger than the powerglide I was running beefo. The L6 gets up and scootin' pretty quick now, and it's stronger and better than I previously thought and owe Phoenix a huge apology!

I want to go limited slip...Is it more for racing or does it help for the street? I can imagine a steep hill will be no problem to climb.

I'm cruising with only one tire and it's not a major problem like it was beefo with the glide(thanks to the lower 1st gear)...with two wheels pushing the truck....shiiiiiiit. Does it take a ton of HP's to help run posi/limited slip?

Thanks for the help HOMETOWNS...

Glad to hear it! Posi dosen't take any more to run, just helps you use what ya got already, you'll really notice it on the launches. :D
