The main registers are usually 5.103/5.104, the steel caps start at 5.121-5.122, the need and interference fit of .0025-.0035. Usually take .004-5 of each side to start, the sneak up on it, my Bridgeport has a DRO but still need to go slow and carefully. As you get closer you set the cap on top of the register and eyeball the center looking at the studs, then you can vary the amount removed to get it centered as best possible. The 1st cut on the linebore shows how centered it is. The linebore will correct it 100% if done correctly.
