Ok - surprised & embarassed....
Got to the route of my recent emission failure (17k car - see other post).
I had changed the plugs a year and a half ago - and it seemed to run ok. Only put about 3-400 miles on since then.
As part of the emissions failure, started to notice a "skip" in mid range RPM - the tester and GM mechanic said he was sure of it. Turned out plug # 6 was cracked inside - only firing intermitently. You shake it and you can hear it moving inside. Not sure what cracked it but 6 new plugs later and...uh...wow is all I have to say. I'm not sure I've ever had this car on all 6 firing right before!! The shocker to me - - - and that mechanic I mentioned....is how da$# quick and smooth it was on 5 - 5 1/2 cylinders!! Now, even a gentle throttle from a stop prevents me from reaching the radio!! - the rear tires slip at all shift points and the tranny even seems to shift better/smoother in response. Now I just want to drive it!!
