After picking THE best week of the summer here in New England for vacation, I end up blowing out my back on the last day of it.

Spent the week working around the house, taking the family miniature golfing, go kart racing and to Lake Compounce. Sunday afternoon I decide to do some work cement repairs on our front steps in preparation for fresh cement stain and I get up from a kneeling position and my back goes out.

I lift heavy stuff all of the time but whenever my back goes out it is for something stupid. Last time I picked up an empty cardboard box.

Made the mistake of getting into bed last nite, (we have a California King Waterbed). Took me 10 minutes to get out of bed for the ol midnight bladder relief. Should have went to the couch but it was too far so I went back to bed. Another struggle this morning.

I did manage to make it downstairs to the computer to check on orders, etc. now I am having a hard time getting out of the chair. Anywho, guess my vacation is extended a couple of days, don't think my boss believed me. This sucks.

All cold air kits/MAF pipes/up pipes ordered this week are going to have to wait a couple of days until I recover. All other orders will proceed as usual as long as I can make it back downstairs. Thanks for your patience.

Mark hope you get better soon bud and take it easy.

Just an idea, my wife not to long ago had serious back pains and she went to have "Acuepuncture" done. How ever that is spelled?

Anyway, it really worked well for her and took care of the problem. Just a thought:)

I am actually having the same thing done (accupuncture) 2 times a week. it is helping on an injury that is over 6 years old in my C5 C6 region...not not corvette....lol

Anyone who has been through a back injury knows your pain, Mark. Sorry. I screwed my back up once years ago and to this day, I can't do much without it complaining.

I've been fighting the same issues for 20 years! Having bulged 5, 4, & 3 lumbar discs, I occasionally get lower back spasms that last several days and take up to 6 weeks to completely recover from.

If this is your problem, get a therapy clinic to show you how to do "Mackenzie" exercises. Believe me, this is the single best thing I've been able to do for prevention. If and when your back gets sore, do about 1600mg of Ibuprofen every 6 hours.

BTW, it seems like every time my back got wrecked, it would happen while sleeping!  Go to bed fine, wake up in pain!

My wife dragged me to her chiropractor this morning and she checked me out and it looks like it is just a serious sprain. Did her mumbo jumbo to me and set me up with ice packs and a back brace and was told no waterbed for a few days.:(

Laid on the floor icing the back when I got home and couldn't get up for a while. When I finally did I put on the back brace and went into the shop to work on orders.:D Hurtin for certain but Buick customers want their stuff. About an hour of work and I am shot.

Hope this goes away soon.

I hurt my back 10 yrs ago when i was 25yrs old, since then I have been in pain, they say my Hamstrings are tight and there tilting my hips,,thats what they say.....
Well I sprain it all the time and have to crawl around like you are now,,,try sitting on the floor indian stlyle(legs crossed)and pretend there is a chrome up pipe 4ft in front of you and stretch to get it ,with hands on the floor,,,helps my lower back problems..Wish you well..

HAHAHA good to know you still have your humor, man!!! Always a plus! Get well soon.... say hello to the chiropractor for me ;)

Hope you get better soon, Mark. Just when I gather a couple extra dollars for an order. I'll put it in anyway, really light stuff. Take your time, I understand.

I feel your pain bro ;)

Get rid of the water bed!

Stretches are the best long term insurance against back spasms. I've been doing this for 31 years. Have tried everything except surgery and exorcism ;)

Acupuncture is OK, but not for the long term. Chiropractor is good sometimes, but, they don't teach enough preventive practice to suit me. Hot tub helps sometimes. Ice can be a life saver (it numbs the tight muscles and speeds healing by reducing inflamationI). Again, stretching is the best preventive medicine.

Over time, a physical therapist will have the long term rehabilitatioln philosophy I prefer. Go to a couple different therapists and choose the one that gives you the advice that works for you.

Keep some valium on hand for acute episodes....

Best Regardes :)

Flexoril and Percocette work wonders for my back. :D
I also eat ibuprofin like it was M&M's.

Starting to feel better now even though I still have pain. Still off from the regular job at least thru Thursday. My chiropractor does want me to be moving around and not just sitting so I am making cold air kits, etc.:D Good therapy leaning over my bandsaw cutting pipe.:)

Still having pain getting up out of chairs and going down stairs but at least I don't scream any more when doing so.

Funny thing is, I have to appear somewhat physically fit as I have a 2nd interview at a job I might take on Thursday afternoon. I don't think they would want to hire "damaged goods" so hopefully I can pull it off. As usual I put myself thru stress again about changing jobs but this one might be the one I finally take.

Ice and a back brace have been my friends thru out this deal.

Serious sprain of what? If you have had a diagnosis without an MRI you have half the story. This similar condition has happened to me several times untill finally requested an MRI to show EXACTLY what was going on in there. It showed a bulging disk pressing on a nerve. Just a suggestion.............let's say you have a similar problem (diagnosed as a sprain) and you told to begin activity which you have begun. While you are leaning over a bandsaw you could be "milking" a disk outward continuing the pain and also preventing the injury from healing. Just a suggestion as a back injury is very dibilitating and it is something you can't see which is hard for people to understand. Good luck

Hey Mark tough it out. I had a moderate disc petrusion pushing on my sciatic nerve and the pain was ridiculous. Lots of potassium and working out on my Total Gym did wonders for me. I use to think back pain was the worst.....until I got a toothache! Remember lift with your legs. Take Care.
